For the past two and a half years I’ve been going to the gym 5 days a week. Walking past Mimi’s Deli every day and never thought of going in.
From the outside it looks like they sell most things pasta and sauce, sandwiches and cold meats… all things Italian.
I had a bit of time so popped in. The fabulous lady asked if I would like to eat in. Hmmmm… I didn’t even realise they had 10 tables out the back.
This doesn’t feel like a typical London deli. The place is run by an extended Italian family and the tables have a slight mediterranean feel to them – I chose to eat in.
The waitress was just a delight: a thick accent (as if I can talk being South African) but yet ever so helpful. She ran me through the menu. My question was simple “What do you recommend?”. Without missing a beat she said lasagne.
To be honest I didn’t expect much, but when the food arrived… the portion was massive! While the presentation looked a bit like my mum had dished it up, it tasted OUTSTANDING!!!!.
I finished everything and probably would have licked the plate if there was no one else there! At first I was the only client but it filled up really fast. Clearly there are a lot of people who know of this hidden gem. In my opinion a diamond.
A fabulously unexpected pleasant surprise.
