Gavin: Creative Director
Gavin began his career as a hairstylist at just 18 years old in Bloemfontein, South Africa at the same salon as Gustav. Since moving to London in 2008, Gavin has worked as a personal hairstylist for private clients and at some of West London's most intimate boutique salons. He has developed a circle of loyal clients, many of whom have been with him since his arrival.
Gavin and Gustav had always felt a strong sense of team since working in that first salon in South Africa all those years ago. Gavin intuitively knew what Gustav wanted for the new salon and has helped him select, train and mentor an elite coterie of hairdressers and apprentices. His quiet, understated nature has created a deep sense of calm in the salon.
An impeccable stylist, Gavin's expertise in point cutting and texturising hair adds a personal touch to our 3D Dry Cut technique. He knows how to get movement in hair of all types making it fall in soft, graceful lines for a flawless finish. Gavin is our men’s grooming specialist. A master of the clipper machine, he keeps a dedicated following of gents looking immaculate.
Constantly honing his skills with continuing education, in 2021 Gavin became a Wella Master Colourist, the highest colour qualification in the industry. As a colourist, he specialises in corrective colouring, predictive colour consultation and bespoke colour services.
A master of extensions, he uses them to add length, depth and volume to any style and hair type. He is also exceptionally skilled at tailoring and styling sheitels, a wig or half wig worn by some married Orthodox Jewish women. The Jewish community of Cape Town depended on him to keep their sheitels in glamorous, salon-fresh and holy-day-ready styles.
For Gavin the most important aspect of his work is developing and nurturing all his relationships at the salon. He lives for mentoring junior stylists, having a catch-up chat with an old client or conducting a personal consultation with a new one. It's about connecting and making every single person in the salon feel and look like royalty.
