We all have our little rituals and our own tips and tricks which work for us to ensure we achieve beautiful, styled and healthy hair. After over x amount of years working as a hairstylist, I have a few of my own that I'd like to share with you.

Diet, one of the most important factors to having healthy hair, is following a healthy balanced diet which will provide the body with nutrients for healthy strong hair.

Hydrate, and I’m referring to water not wine! Drinking enough water will ensure your hair and skin stays healthy and hydrated. It’s recommended that you drink at least 2 litres of water a day, which will also give your skin a gorgeous healthy glow.

Exercise, regularly exercising is incredibly beneficial for a multitude of reasons. Firstly it will keep your body fit and healthy, resulting in a fabulous toned body. Regular exercise can also result in faster hair growth. It’s also worth mentioning that there have been many studies that show that exercising regularly helps improve your mental health and is a great way of managing stress!

Don’t shampoo too often, by over cleansing the hair and scalp you can cause the hair to become dry and brittle, which can result in breakage.

Using hair products that contain harsh chemicals too often! Try to avoid harsh hair chemicals like relaxers, bleach and chemical straighteners. Use natural hair products, when possible to improve your hair health.

Swimming in chlorine pools, and using alcohol based hair products can build up on the hair and cause all sorts of breakage, including discolouration of the hair.

Regular cutting, getting your haircut every 6-8 weeks can ensure you keep your hairstyle in shape and trimming off broken or damaged ends, preventing the hair from breaking further. It’s also a great excuse to have a relaxing afternoon getting pampered.

Try to relax and manage your stress, being stressed and anxious can increase hair loss and damage. So if you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed perhaps make the effort to spend some time offline, get outside and go on a walk. Or treat yourself to an at home pamper evening, we recommend a bubble bath, glass of wine and perhaps a mani-pedi.

Scalp massage, getting a decent scalp massage will encourage blood flow and spread of nutrients, not to mention they’re super relaxing!

Make sure you’re getting enough sleep, it’s recommended that adults get 8 hours sleep a night.
